Most commercially available acoustic bat repellents are not effective because they are designed to scare bats.  This is a mistake because once the bats get used to these devices, they come back.  What is needed is a better solution, the BD100 ultrasonic bat deterrent.

An ideal bat deterrent does not try to scare, instead it simply interferes with one of the bats amazing natural abilities, the ability to navigate using sonar.  In effect, the BD100 is a sonar jammer.  This offers a permanent solution because bats have no natural ability to overcome it.  Eventually the bats will be driven out of the area.

The BD100 is a professional grade ultrasonic bat deterrent that employs a proprietary new technology developed by Binary Acoustic Technology.  We call this technology wideband ultrasonic masking.  It generates a broadband signal that jams bat sonar making it difficult for bats to navigate, but not impossible.

Yes, these devices work. These initially were proof of concept designs for higher-powered units intended to be installed to deter bats from approaching industrial wind turbines. Today the BD100 can be used to temporarily drive bats from attics, bridges, or any other structure they prefer while a bat exclusion is conducted and the building sealed. A single unit may be used to keep bats out of tack rooms, garages with collectible cars, porches, or other areas where bats cause a problem in a specific place, but sealing the building may not be cost effective.

"Our trials all showed that the number is between three and fourteen days for full effect, zero bats" - Mark Jensen, inventor of the BD100

In 2018 BCM conducted trials on the BD100 in AZ and in FL and found them to be effective. Download our report:

PILOT TESTING THE EFFICACY OF USING A LOW-POWER ULTRASOUND EMITTER TO DECREASE BAT ACTIVITY

Prolonged exposure to ultrasonic frequencies may cause human health issues or hearing damage. This device is not for use in the living spaces of occupied buildings. Do not use in bedrooms; sleeping next to BD100 is completely unadvised. For use in non-living spaces only such as attics, outbuildings, porches, and perhaps unfinished basements.

The BD100 is a low power unit that is designed specifically for residential use.  It has an effective range of 17 feet which is perfect for a porch area or a small attic.  Simply hang it from a ceiling or a beam and connect the timer unit to a nearby wall outlet and let it go to work. The timer and power supply unit is a wall mount unit.  It will operate up to four BD100 units simultaneously.

Product Highlights

  • Wideband ultrasonic masking technology
  • Designed for residential use
  • Durable aluminum enclosure
  • Each unit covers a 17 foot radius

Specifications:

  • Technology : Wideband ultrasonic masking
  • Maximum Transmit Power : 96 dB SPL @ 50KHz
  • Effective Range : 12 feet
  • Power Requirements : < 2 Watts
  • Size: 6 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches
  • Device is not waterproof

In the Box:

  • One BD100 Bat Deterrent
  • One 6' power cord, ending in bare leads intended to connect to a power supply.
  • The BD100 does -not- come with a power supply!

Optional:

  • One BD100 Timer + 110v Wall Outlet Power supply. This item is separate because one Timer can power up to four BD100s. Use additional BD100 Timers for other locations or your own 12v power supply, such as a 12v car battery.

Installation:

  •  BD100 bat deterrents: they are intended to work with a power supply controlled with a photocell, so they are not on during the day.
  • The power supply is placed somewhere protected from weather but outside.
  • Up to 4 BD100 can connect to one power supply.
  • The BD100 power cord ends in bare wires intended to screw into the power supply.  This wire is only 6’ long- extend to 200’ or more using direct burial 16/2 wire (or larger) which can be found locally at a hardware store.
  • Because the photocell on the power supply needs light to work, and every application/installation is different, the power cords are 6’ and the end user creates whatever power supply is needed; deterrents could even be run off a 12v battery that is recharged with a small solar panel.
