Gallery: Bat Survey and Research Fieldwork - Live Trapping and Netting

Bat Conservation and Management's first major project was capturing female Indiana bats as they emerged from a mountaintop railroad tunnel. That was in 2000, when we built our own traps from PVC and made mist net poles from... well, whatever. We were using paper too maps and only one team member had a new-fangled cell phone. At this point today we have conducted surveys for all major government agencies, a large number of private corporations, and quite a few consulting firms that have needed our specialized field services. Note: any photos showing technicians handling bats bare handed are legacy images from a period when this was common practice, and anyone handling wildlife would have obtained rabies pre-exposure vaccination.
