Gallery: Sites Lost to WNS
When it became obvious that "White Nose Syndrome" was going to decimate the majority of the cave bat population in the Northeast US, BCM's founder John Chenger realized many of the bat displays we were taking for granted would be lost for our lifetime. Some of the fall swarm videos below were filmed on in 2009. This would be the final event for virtually every one of these bats as ~98% would not survive the winter of 2010. While sites without disturbance appear to be recovering slightly, it is safe to say no one in the Northeast will witness such a sight in our lifetimes. Additional videos here include random clips of bat trapping pre-WNS times, and later John captured rare footage of unusually bat activity outside of hibernacula when WNS was in mid-kill.
