The power of true full spectrum analysis, now literally in your hand. Only very recently the bat acoustic world has been turned on edge by a convergence of important developments in ultrasonic microphone design, powerful yet energy efficient tablets, and over 20 years of bat call study. SonoBatLIVE is the center of these intersecting paths and provides researchers with the world's first and only full spectrum bat call recorder and analysis app on a mobile device.
SonoBatLIVE takes advantage of high resolution data extraction that considers approximately 80-120 measurements per pulse to capture subtle call features, far exceeding any other commercial bat call analysis software available. All other North American classifiers rely on data deficient zero-crossing data by comparison and are less capable of extracting full trends and detecting nuances in low amplitude or noisy conditions. SonoBatLIVE is the world's first true handheld -bat- detector; with sophisticated real time noise rejection algorithms, almost no noise files are recorded in comparison to other handheld devices that tend to record wind, road, insect, electrical, and other animal noise that are decidedly -not- bats. Users have the option to save those noise files in a separate folder for manual review if desired.
Extensive and broadly representative full-spectrum library. SonoBatLIVE's species classifiers are based on the most robust, species-confirmed full-spectrum reference library from more than two decades of continent-wide careful tracking, recording, and interpreting bats in the field. Built by bat biologists, tested by field biologists. SonoBatLIVE has been beta tested by power users across North America, but is specifically intended to enhance field observations, not get in the way of them. Much consideration has been given to using a powerful tool under field conditions, so more time is spent observing wildlife and less attention is required onscreen.
Hardware Requirements: Windows 8 or higher laptop, PC, Mini PC, or tablet. 4 GB RAM + 1.5 gHz processor or higher recommended
Version options:
SonoBatLIVE Educational: This is a full featured copy of SonoBatLIVE intended to be a free trial. It will make a limited number of recordings each evening, after which it will still display species suggestions and report totals, but will not save the actual recordings to disk. This is great for interpretive walks and educational use where making recordings is not necessary, and there is no risk of a trial period running out in the middle of a demonstration.
SonoBatLIVE Professional: By purchasing a license key, SonoBatLIVE will create recordings indefinitely, including a lower power passive mode. This version is a more recent release than the demo, includes additional features, and is available only with purchase of the full SonoBat analysis package.

When I am in the field collecting data via SonoBat Live, it can automatically name the file; some files are named: “assesasHilo 20180728_213107”, “Hilo2/22”, etc.; another files are named as “indefinite_20180728_214318”; so my question is: what mean those names: “assesasHilo…”; “Hilo...”, “Hilo2/2…”, and “indefinite…”?
HiLo may refer to a recording that contains both high frequency and low frequency call pulses in it (the cutoff between High and Low generally being about 35 kHz. ) Seeing both reported may be an indication that the software sees both in the recording. Sometimes a bat may be doing a behavior that crosses into both frequency ranges like this. However, more often it is an indication that there are multiple bats in a single recording, both a High frequency and low frequency animal. The 2/22 means out of 22 pulses that were considered for classification, 2 pulses could be identified at the current confidence threshold setting. “indefinite” results are even weaker than a simple High or Low F decision. Indefinate usually means the quality of the recording is so bad, the signals contained do not rise to the level that SonoBat considers to be useful for measuring or contributing to a classification. If the automated system cannot find enough signal to determine even if it is a HF or LF recording, it will report “indefinite”.

Tell me the proper specs I\'ll need for my new SurfacePro laptop to be able to run SB4 (& SB4 Live)?
For LIVE, use at least a surface pro 4, i7 processor, 4 gb ram, 1.5 ghz speed processor is minimum, anything more will be better. If you are going to be using it yourself, get more ram and faster speed as much as u can afford with speed being the priority. Requires windows 10. We are testing using a surface me device which is smaller screen.
For the SonoBat Viewer (the main analysis app) really any 64 bit Win 10 computer will work.

I currently have an Echo Meter Touch microphone and am ready to upgrade. I am thinking of purchasing Sonobat LIVE for now with the plan to buy a compatible microphone when my budget permits. In the meantime, can I run calls recorded with the EMT through Sonobat LIVE?
SonoBatLIVE is a recording app; you cannot point it to a directory of prerecorded files for analysis. You can do that with the full SonoBat North America app using the SonoBatch tool. If you purchase the entire $1500 SonoBat package you get SonoBatLIVE and the full NA package. As far as we know the Echometer only works with Wildlife Acoustics recording app; it's microphone isn't supported by SonoBatLIVE at this time. SonoBatLIVE works with the Pettersson M500, most of the mics from Binary Acoustic Technologies, and soon a few other European mics.

Hello I will be purchasing 4 of the Petterson M500 microphones and connecting them to Iphones. My understanding is that SonoBat Live is what I will need to download into these iPhone devices and that SonoBat Live is free download. Let me know if that is all I need for these microphones to operate correctly in the field. I am also ordering the North American SonoBat software. Thanks, Foung
There is no iPhone app that specifically is for recording bats. There is an app called Ultrasonic Analyizer which -can- make recordings, but doing so long term is not fun.
SonoBat is a Windows 10/11 app only. We recommend obtaining a refurbished Dell 2:1 or Surface Pro tablet with an I7 processor or higher, with Windows 10/11. Chromebooks or anything non- Windows will not work. There is a free download -demo- of SonoBatLIVE availabe, however it only saves recordings for 30 minutes per day; fine for public interpretation but not-so-great for research. All M500 microphones come with Pettersson's BatSound Touch Lite, which is a very good bat-centric recording app, but it is Windows based as well.
