  • Hi There, My company purchased 3 of the Elekon Bat Scanners. We used them for the first time last night and were sort of unhappy with the amount of white noise they make. Hard to listen for audible sounds bats make when they are existing a roost. They are still in good condition (used once) and we have all the packaging. I am wondering if we can still return them. I am thinking that the Petterson D230 might be a better option. These are for emergence surveys. I have to check with the person that bought the units, but we might be very near or right at the 30 days. Thanks for your help.

    Hello- the "white noise" is an artifact of the HET system. This will be the same as you will hear using the HET function of the D230. The FD output on the 230 will remove alot of the "white noise" at the expense of less sensitivity. Either device is perfectly fine for emergence surveys; the BatScanner Stereo gives a "3D" effect of bats around you, while the D230 is more forward sensitive and you point the detector rapidly to get a sense of what direction bats are located in
