  • You have just supplied me with x2 IRLamp7's, thank you. Can you tell me which lens is fitted to each light and which are the lens' in the box? There are no instructions but the spare lens' are marked with a '50'.

Hello- the lens that is attached is a "normal" lens, and the 50 is the wide andle lens; you should experiment with both to see the effect and consider which might be better for your application. The wide lens might be good for off camera lighting, for example.

  • I was wondering if you had any recommendations for IR trail cams to help monitoring flying bats?

My experience is that bats have to be within 6’ or preferably less to trigger. Rarely would you get an actual photo of a bat, but if the bat is investing a hole or roost, 15 second video usually is successful as the bat will make multiple passes.    You can test camera settings and response by dropping/tossing hand warmers in small cloth bags; the cameras are often actually heat sensitive as opposed to motion sensitive. So, if you just toss a ball, it won’t trigger, until you toss something hot at it.    I would inquire on the Western Bat Working Group list serve for current model suggestions to get started. The models change so fast I cannot keep up, and they all require testing.

There is also a facebook group called “Infa red video for Ecologists” who will have suggestions on where to start: https://www.facebook.com/groups/414771109174849
