DayLodge DIY Kit arrives with pre-cut and pre-roughened wood parts, screws, adhesive, plastic lumber roof, and mounting screws (however, the same bat house is available assembled) for those looking to speed up their bat house project. The DayLodge features a very strong, and very simple roof construction that creates a super solid bat house that will last many, many years. It is capped by a solid piece of 1/2'' thick recycled plastic lumber, and will last decades. It is suitable for kids ~8 and up with supervision, workshops, school projects, scout projects, or anyone wishing to build their own solid, modern bat house without fabricating parts. This is the easiest to assemble 3 chamber bat house BCM has offered. 

DayLodge comes with exterior structural mounting screws that support the entire bat house, eliminating the problem of roofs and backs separating. DayLodge is the strongest, most long lasting plywood bat house BCM has ever produced. 

Finishing/Mounting Materials needed: 

  1. Exterior paint or stain or sealant (black, or a shade of brown or green for most climates) Bats -will- move into unpainted bat houses in many areas, but the bat house will last longer when painted, stained, or sealed.

  3. Utility knife (refresh bat holds after painting).
  4. Cordless drill, Phillips bit, 8mm socket tip (or 8mm socket wrench)

What can I return?
You may return new, unopened items sold within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Shirts, hats, and mugs are made to order and are not returnable.

When will I get my refund?
Most refunds are fully refunded in 3-5 business days after we receive and process your return.

Does BCM do replacements?
We can only replace the exact item and version you ordered, and you are responsible to return the damaged item within 30 days. If you want to exchange for a different item, you will need to return the item and place a new order.

Pettersson D500x and M500 Bat Detectors Return and Exchange Policy
All detectors are tested by BCM staff before shipping to customers. Please contact BCM first detailing the issue you are having with the hardware and obtain a Return Authorization. Should email or phone troubleshooting fail to resolve the issue, you should send the unit in suitable packaging to BCM, with the RA number written on the packaging.

BCM will confirm the unit is defective was not abused or water damaged. BCM will replace the unit at our discretion usually within one week. Units requiring repairs may take 6-8 weeks.

Pettersson factory warranty is one year.

D500x External Microphone Return Policy
All microphones are tested by BCM staff before shipping to customers. Please contact BCM first detailing the issue you are having with the Microphone and obtain a Return Authorization. Should email or phone troubleshooting fail to resolve the issue, you should send the unit in suitable packaging to BCM, with the RA number written on the packaging.

DOA microphones are replaced immediately at no charge. There is a $150 for refurbishing used microphones, shipped immediately if in stock.

Electronics
Electronics purchased from BCM are easily returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment. These items must be in new condition with original packaging and accessories. All bat detectors sold by BCM are supported by the device's manufacturers. In the unlikely event a detector appears to be defective, please contact the customer support network for the computer manufacturer to have it serviced under warranty. Pettersson D500x/M500 devices have specific policies, see above.

Software
Software titles purchased from BCM are easily returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment. These items must be unopened and still in their plastic wrap.

General items

Other items purchased from BCM can only be returned if:

  • The return is packaged and shipped in the original packaging.
  • The items are still in new condition.

Ask BCM a Question

  • Do the roost partitions go all the way to the top against the roof, or should there space?

    There should be a 1’’-1.5’’ gap between the top of the partitions and the inside of the roof. This allows bats to change crevices easily, the pups love to lay in that space, and bats have been observed to change crevices when a snake got into one. So, this is a good design feature we have always had. 

  • We were wondering if there are any stains or paints that we shouldn\'t use or if most are fine and we just need to give it the proper time to dry and offgas.

    There is no particular paint or stain that is bad for bats. There is no data to support bats prefer one or the other or none. The bat house will certainly last longer if painted/stained. Because of the plastic roof and mounting scheme eliminates the roof wear, the part that will weather is the front, so be sure to double/triple coat the front.   Thick paint will fill in the scratch marks on the landing area, so after painting re-scratch with a utility knife. Don’t forget to scratch all around the back vent. Truth be told, on 3 chamber and larger bat houses, bats actually land on the bottom of the baffles much more often than the “landing area”, but it should still be scratched. - JC

  • I live in Phoenix Arizona- Would it still be advisable to mount in full sun- or would it be better in just partial - We get some really hot 100-117 degree days here in a good part of the summer Thanks for any help on this issue

    Hi- bat houses in low elevation Phoenix-Tucson area need to be in -full shade-. They have been successful on buildings  in full shade in that area. 

  • can i put this on my huge doug firs? dont want to put a post in + concrete just for this in back yard' do they have to be stand alone?

    If the bat house would receive 6-8 hours of direct morning sun, then that location may work. Some beleive tree mounting makes it easier for predators, but this might not come into play until you have a lot of bats. More importantly, use only stainless steel lag bolts when attaching the pole mount to a tree; the normal galvanized lag bolts are more likely to harm the tree.- JC

  • For the DayLodge triple chamber how high do you recommend the ground mounted post to be and what kind of material?

    Hello Scott- the bottom of any bat house should be at least 10' above ground. About 2.5' of the post goes into the ground with a bag of cement. We typically use a 4x6x16' post, although you can use a 4x6x14' post here as a minimum. You can use 4x4 post but for a few dollars more the 4x6 may stay straighter and last longer than the 4x4.   • I am doing an eagle scout project for my Boy Scout Troop and I am curious of the longevity of your $69 DIY bat box. I need to know how long it last because I cannot maintenance very often. Also, how often do you have to maintenance the boxes? Thank you.

    Hello- the DayLodge is going to outlast most any other wooden bat house because 1) the roof is thick plastic, and 2) the mounting approach has long structural grade screws going thru the entire bat house, literally pinning it to a mounting surface, instead of it "hanging" and pulling on joints/seams.   • Hi. My question is about attaching a bat house to a brick building. I want the house to be stable, of course, but I don't want to damage the house or garage. (Both are 100+ years old, so I'm cautious about the bricks.)

    Hello- recommended hardware includes six (6) - 3/16'' x 3 1/4'' long Tapcon concrete screws and one 5/32'' masonry bit to drill into brick. You can probably just use 4, unless one of the screws lands in a bad spot. Try to stay away from the edges of the brick or it will split. You can get small packages of Tapcon screws that include the correct hammer drill bit at local hardware stores.
