DreamLodge - Finished Three Chamber Cedar Bat House
QUESTIONS & ANSWERSAsk BCM a Question
Is cedar better than plywood? If so, do you have a dyi cedar kit? Or, is it possible to buy one? Thank you.
There is absolutely no data showing bats prefer one kind of construction material over another. With occassional repainting and a relatively dry location, our plywood-based bat houses should last as long as the bat houses made from thicker cedar boards. Note that both the Dream series (cedar) and the Day series (plywood) both include roofs made from virtually industructable recycled plastic lumber, and mounting schemes take all the stress off the roof. So, its really a matter of personal preference; if mounting in a showy location on the property, some might consider the look of the Dream houses to be preferable. We are considering offering a cedar kit.
