DayRoost - DIY Kit - Single Chamber, Plywood Bat House
QUESTIONS & ANSWERSAsk BCM a Question
Is the siding mount kit appropriate for vinyl siding? How far up should I mount the bat houses? The south/west facing wall on my house is next to my driveway. Thank you!! Excited to get these kits and give some bats a good home.
Hi please check out All About Bats as there are some pros and cons to mounting on a building. Might get droppings on a parked car which will damage the finish over time. The bottom of the bat house should be 10' or more above ground. If you are in a hot climate, it could go almost under the eves so it is shaded in the hot afternoon. If in a cool climate, don't put it up so high under the eves. https://batmanagement.com/pages/manuals Thanks!
Hello, we live in the city of Virginia Beach. My son wants to put up a bat box, but I’m not sure we have the right space. Would bats want to use it if we put it high on the side of our house?
Mounting on buildings can be very successfull, and is the best place for a small bat house. I would not mount directly over a window, or directly over a walkway. For more mounting pros and cons see our All About Bat Houses manual: https://batmanagement.com/pages/manuals
We live in upsate New York. Can I mount this on a pole instead of on a building? The "pole mount" link above isn't working. Thanks for any help!!A single chamber bat house like this will be more successful mounted on a building. It takes advantage of the thermal mass/heat of the building. However, you have big brown bats in your area that actually like it cooler than some other species. So, If going on a post give it a shot! I would paint the bat house black, and still put another on a building in the sun, and see what happens.
