The 28'' tall  Rocket Roost is a no brainer for serious bat habitat enhancement and mitigation. Our Rocket Core mimics a dead tree with 3/4'' thick vertical baffles built around an easily obtainable 4''x4'' post. Bats can travel freely throughout the bat house to follow the sun if desired. This is a great choice suitable for small colonies of a wide range of species, on it's own or supplementing other bat house designs on your property. A 1/8'' thick heavy-duty custom outdoor UV-resistant plastic shell protects the roost for a no maintenance roost. 

The BCM Rocket Roost is intended to be added to an existing 4''x4''x16' treated post. Choose a location that receives -direct morning sun-, or even full sun. For warm climates or if you already have a bat house in full sun, consider installing in part (afternoon) or full shade. As with all bat houses, multiple location or roost designs can increase the chances of occupancy. 

Thanks to "White Nose Syndrome" that has killed millions of bats in North America, the landscape of the bat population has changed. Rocket Roosts tend to attract small families of bats but of a wider range of species, whereas larger nursery bat houses tend to attract a large number of just a few species. Some bats prefer small roosts which end up being less obvious to predators and less prone to parasite overload. So, one bat roost does not fit all, and BCM Rocket Roosts are a great complement to nursery style bat houses especially on forest edges.

Rocket Roosts are great for large mitigation projects were a number of long-term replacement roosts are necessary, while being far more cost effective than other solutions.

Contents: (1) 8'' diameter, 28'' tall Rocket Roost with heavy-duty plastic exterior and associated hardware. The Rocket Roost overall is almost 8'' in diameter, 28'' high, and weighs ~20 lbs.

What is the difference between a Rocket Roost and a Super Rocket Roost? The Super Rockets are 56'' tall and contain more roost space. The extended height may be attractive to bats at certain times of the year. The 4’’ Super Rocket contains only “wedge” crevices. The 8’’ Super Rocket contains both “wedge” crevices and more traditional “vertical” crevices found in nursery type bat houses. 

You supply: (1)- 80 lb. bag concrete mix. For the base use (1) 4''x4''x16' (14' is minimum) treated post. The post usually is placed 2.5' in the ground, and the bottom of any bat house should be at least 10' above ground. Use a longer base post if you anticipate the vegetation to grow up and possibly shade the roost. You can make a warp-resistant post by using deck screws to attach two 2x4x16' PT together; these are available at any lumber supply. In wet locations, you might possibly double the life of the post by adding a Post Protector to protect the ground-air transition zone where most base posts fail. 

How to install:  Slip on post protector (if desired) and drill out its weep holes. Place in a hole with 8'' of gravel at the bottom. Backfill a few more inches of gravel, then backfill with cement mix. Approximately 2.5'-3' of the post should be below ground. Two people can usually flip the post upright. What states does sales tax apply?
If you live in PA, you will be charged sales tax according to your state’s sales tax rules.  Tax Exempt Businesses/Organizations in PA only: contact us to place your order (717-241-2228). Please have your tax exempt number.

What can I return?
You may return new, unopened items sold within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Shirts, hats, and mugs are made to order and are not returnable.

When will I get my refund?
Most refunds are fully refunded in 3-5 business days after we receive and process your return.

Does BCM do replacements?
We can only replace the exact item and version you ordered, and you are responsible to return the damaged item within 30 days. If you want to exchange for a different item, you will need to return the item and place a new order.

Pettersson D500x and M500 Bat Detectors Return and Exchange Policy
All detectors are tested by BCM staff before shipping to customers. Please contact BCM first detailing the issue you are having with the hardware and obtain a Return Authorization. Should email or phone troubleshooting fail to resolve the issue, you should send the unit in suitable packaging to BCM, with the RA number written on the packaging.

BCM will confirm the unit is defective was not abused or water damaged. BCM will replace the unit at our discretion usually within one week. Units requiring repairs may take 6-8 weeks.

Pettersson factory warranty is one year.

D500x External Microphone Return Policy
All microphones are tested by BCM staff before shipping to customers. Please contact BCM first detailing the issue you are having with the Microphone and obtain a Return Authorization. Should email or phone troubleshooting fail to resolve the issue, you should send the unit in suitable packaging to BCM, with the RA number written on the packaging.

DOA microphones are replaced immediately at no charge. There is a $150 for refurbishing used microphones, shipped immediately if in stock.

Electronics
Electronics purchased from BCM are easily returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment. These items must be in new condition with original packaging and accessories. All bat detectors sold by BCM are supported by the device's manufacturers. In the unlikely event a detector appears to be defective, please contact the customer support network for the computer manufacturer to have it serviced under warranty. Pettersson D500x/M500 devices have specific policies, see above.

Software
Software titles purchased from BCM are easily returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment. These items must be unopened and still in their plastic wrap.

General items

Other items purchased from BCM can only be returned if:

  • The return is packaged and shipped in the original packaging.
  • The items are still in new condition.
  • You ship your return within 30 days of receipt of the original shipment.

Any returns that do not meet the above qualifications may receive a reduced refund or be returned to the purchaser. Some items may incur a restocking fee as these items must be inspected, tested, and repackaged. If a restocking fee applies it will be noted on the product information page.  All returns will be less original shipping costs.

  • Looking for something for bats in a cooler climate (Montana), what would you recommend?

    Hi- any of our bat houses are attractive to bats in Montana, when they are the dark color selection or stained black or a very dark color. The placement is absolutely critical- any bat house -must- receive direct, morning sun. Preferably, all day sun in your location. Basically, try to bake these bats for best chance of success, in your area. You might try a few different locations, a few different styles (DayLodge vs. ColonyLodge vs. Rocket Roost) including mounting directly on the sunny side of a building. One ore more of these setups may start a new colony, and then it is easy to expand if desired. -JC
