| Your semi-diligent webmaster is still off site, so I only know secondhand information. Be assured, if something drastic were to happen, we would all know about it. On this night capture rates were quite high...over 150, quite a contrast to the previous evening's results. Even more interesting, this is the first night we observed an abundance of female little browns after midnight...usually the girls do their thing just after dusk. Nearly all the bats flew into the mine when released, possibly due to another frosty night around the mine sites. Two nights in the cold must be too much to put up with...
I am told that the trapping effort at both sites is now an all night affair. In addition, more plastic sheeting was deployed at one remaining "open" entrance in hopes of persuading more bats into the trap. At some point during all this the crew did catch a male sodalis...we are up to 4 females and 2 males, I beleive. |
